Making Every Hit Feel Real
Combat felt flat. You'd shoot, the numbers would go down, but there was no punch to it. You couldn't feel the difference between a glancing hit and a direct one. That had to change.
What We Added
Hit sparks now burst off the target ship when your shot connects. Damage numbers pop up at the point of impact so you can see exactly what you're doing. The screen shakes on hard hits — just enough to feel the weight without being disorienting. And every weapon now has a muzzle flash that gives you that split-second of "I just fired something dangerous."
The Dreadnought's siege beam is the best example. Before, it was a line that did damage. Now when you lock it on, sparks cascade off the target, the damage ticks are visible, and you can feel the beam chewing through armor. It looks like what it is — a weapon that's about to ruin someone's day.
Why It Matters
Good feedback is the difference between a game that feels like a spreadsheet and one that feels like combat. You should know you hit something before you check the health bar. You should feel vulnerable when you're taking fire. These are small things individually, but together they completely change how a fight feels.
We also added critical hit flashes — a quick yellow pulse on your screen when you land a big hit. It's a tiny reward that makes you want to line up the next one.
The siege beam, railgun charge, and repair beam all have distinct visual signatures now too. In a 5v5 fight with ten ships firing, you can read what's happening. That matters more than we expected.
